Everyone has something they are good at.
Some people are incredibly intellectual, others are layed back and creative.
I beleive I fall in the creative area. Ever since I was a child, my creativity has always expanded beyond horizons. It sounds incredibly cliche to say something like that, but being a kid, the ideas that ran through my head we're undeniably ravishing. I'd pull out a peice of paper and draw random segments of different things and by the end of my drawing, I would end up with something mind blowing. It may not have been the prettiest or well done drawing, but it was always, without a doubt, artistic. To this day, I continue to expand my creative side using sketch pencils, Charcoal (particularly one of my favorites), oil based and acrylic paints and felt tip pens. I find one of my methods of release is through art. Any form of art for that matter.
Almost 2 weeks ago, I purchased my first keyboard. Learning piano has always been a goal of mine; since a piano is far too expensive, I figured investing in a good keyboard would well suffice until I can really play and have much more experience. I can then make the decision of buying a grand piano.
Regardless, aside from having a creative mind, I have an impeccable ear for music.
Melodies complietly mesmerize me. I find that having such a love for music helps me in the learning domain. I'm self taught on guitar and can play very well.
After 2 nights with my new keyboard, I was able to play 3 whole songs and know most of the chords and all notes. I can now identify the sound of each chord or note that is played and I'm getting better by the day.
Like I said at first, we all have something we're good at. I'm creative, how about you?

Living in the 60's
I remember watching old movies where teenagers go out, have fun, go dancing, hang out at pubs or at cafe's or watch movies and talk. It seems as though that just isn't enough anymore. As time flew by, hanging out at a pub or a movie, sipping on orange soda became sitting in a basement getting crunked.
I often hear people around me talking about their weekend getting smashed and not remembering what happened, having bruises they didn't know about and loosing their belongings in weird situations. Sadly, I've even heard a few people deciding on not going to someones place to hang out because there won't be liquor or any other substances involved.
I'm not in anyway saying that the teens back in the 60's were compleitly innocent. Obviously drinking and smoking was big back then too. The difference that defines theses eras, is that back then, it was done for fun. Drinking and smoking wasn't something teens had to depend on to have fun at a party.
I'd give anything to go back in time and live in the 60's.

Our World Has Come to This...
I came across this video today and it really deeply upset me. I'm not in this exact siatuation but I can only imagine how something this simple can upset someone immensely. Discrimination and Racism has been going on since the begining of time. Yes, it has gotten better throughout the years, but there is in fact intense amount of racism still going around.
In my case, being a Latina/Mexican, I couldn't be prouder. I have an interresting background to talk about. Having a French Father and Latina Mother, I've got a nice mix going on. I'm tall with thick dark hair (French side) with medium curls, dark eyes and tan skin (Mexican side).
I used to look down on myself until I realized I have alot to offer.
At school and in all my surroundings I constantly hear people talk about Mexicans. I hear comments or labels like "Dirty Mexicans" "Jumpers" "Beanners" and many more that can get alot more graphic and offensive. People always picture mexicans riding a donkey wearing a poncho, a sombrero and holding a guitar. I trully do blame this on the media. I invite you to go to mexico, travel around mexico city, perhaps the outskirts, Cancun, Acapulco, Guanajuato etc. and point out at least 20 stereotyped Mexicans. Good Luck.
The media has put in our heads that Mexican's have this appearance and that Mexico is a poor country. Yes, like EVERY country, Mexico does has some areas of poverty. But it also has some of the most beautiful Riches of the world as well as one of the most advanced Scientific Research Laboratories in the world.
The malls in Mexico city are like none you've ever seen. High tech to the max.
The Marble Palace, made entirely of Marble, home to the most famous Operas. It's absolutely stunning.
The Pyramids of the sun and moon. A well known Historical location. One of the most interresting places I've ever been to in my life.
So take a look around once in a while and realize that beyond your border, theres a whole world to be discovered. Every Country is different, every race is different and yet, we're all the same. Lets act on that, shall we?
It disgusts me to see this but I feel it's something important to share. So please take a few minutes of your time and watch this video.

The Random Things of Life - Part I

Life is full of wonderfull things of which a few are most important. The one thing that stand outs the most to me is music. Music is a very important part of my life. Ever since I was young i had always wanted to become a musician. I'd sing constantly, mind you, my voice is terrible. I would pick up pots and pans and make beats. I would beg my parents for a guitar or a piano. On my 7th birthday, my uncle bought my BROTHER an acoustic guitar. My brother and I share the same birthday so when I saw a guitar I thought it was going to be mine. My uncle approached me and gave me a barbie doll. It was the most disapointing moment in my life so far. That's when I became determined. I told myself that one day, I will buy myself a guitar and become a great guitarist and prove to my uncle I was worthy of that guitar. Unfortunately, at that young age, I didn't have a job so I never got money except on my birthday and on christmas. Obviously the momey i did receive didnt stick around for too long as I would go crazy over candy. Finally on my 12th Christmas, my mother bought me my first guitar. When I saw that Instrument leanning against the wall behind the tree that christmas morning, I got overwhelmed with happiness and couldnt help but to cry. Yes, I cried when I got my first guitar.
My mother then offered to bring me to guitar lessons but i refused. I said I could learn all by myself. Everyone told me it was going to be difficult but I didnt care, I was determined. To everyone's surprise, I caught on very quickly. After a month of playing I had learned the first minute or so of Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne off the top of my head. I had perfected a few other songs and soon enough was able to tab out songs by ear. After 3 years of playing, I became rather amazing I must say and was much better than alot of my friends who had in fact taken lessons and yet... against everything I had been told... I was self taught.
Unfortunately, once I got a job and started working most evenings and weekends, my available time got cut down and I slowly stopped playing guitar. I still pick it up once in a while and I remember why I started playing in the first place. The simple joy of creating your own music is amazing. A feeling like no other...

Ughhh...

There's one thing that bothers me soooo much about my weekends.
Being a teenager, I love to spend my time when im not working making plans with friends and hanging out and having a great time. It sounds corny, but I do very much like spending time with my family aswell. However, I cant stand when my spontaneous family time interfeers with my social life.
This morning, around 10 am, i'm still sleeping soundly in my bed, nice and cozy when suddenly... a loud door knock. It's my mother. " JESSICA! Get up were going out for breakfast then applepicking!!!" UGHH!! really?!?! could you not have told me this maybe yesterday so I could have woken up earlier, without being rushed out of bed?
In this situation, I had to get out of bed, run to the shower and get ready. All while having my parents wait for me in the car. It's such a frustrating feeling when your parents make plans without telling you and your stuck bailing on your friends...

Teen Problems

Being a teenager in highschool, whether your a guy or a girl, there are so many problems to face.
Thinking about college, tuition, money, family, friends... the list goes on.
For alot of people in their senior year, Anxiety strikes. A thousand things can run through anyones mind. Confusing and aggravating thoughts along with feelings of depression can become really overwhelming and make you feel hopeless. It's always important to keep your head held high no matter the situation.
For example, I'm am incredibly proud of a friend from school. Being a teen in a relationship, the biggest fear for a girl is to fall pregnant. A friend of mine has fallen pregnant 7 months ago. I can only imagine how devastating a situation like this would be, specially at 17 years old but she kept her head held high and didn't let anyone put her down. She, aswell as her soon comming baby boy are doing very well, both healthy and putting a smile on. I have no doubt in my mind that she will be a wonderful loving mother to her son.
Being 17 about to raise a child all on her own, is surely to be a tough road which is why she can use all the help she can get. I went baby shopping for her and bought her a few things I knew she is really going to need. Some pacifiers, cause we all want the baby to grow a nice healthy smile. Baby Soap and Baby oil, because all babies must smell good. And of course, the cuttest outfits. The first thing I saw was a hoodie "suit", grey, that said All Star on it, because that baby boy is an All Star! and I had to pair them with two pairs of the "pimp-est" shoes!
When he get's here, he'll be crawling in style!

New Principal Barricades Students!

My school has applied a series of rediculous new rules. I have great respect for our new principal. It is definately not easy embarking as the new principal of a high school who is used to the way it has been ran for the past 6 years. But this man is way in over his head. In my opinion, being a new principal, he should ease his way into the position and start off on a good note. In this case, our new principal dumped a cluster of new rules on the first day! Funny thing is, we as students were expected to follow this whole new set of rules within the first day. Have they forgotten that as Senior student and the fact our school is combined with junior high and it has been run by the same principal from the begining of our education at this highschool, we've been following the same rules for 6 years. We are accustomed to our highschool living. We cannot change all our ways in one day.
The new rule that makes me laugh the most is that we cant wear our own sweaters or jackets INSIDE the school. Not wearing our own sweaters in class makes perfect sense because we are required to wear a uniform, that i understand compleitly. During our breaks or lunch hour while were roaming the hallways or the cafeteria, or even just heading outside, we will get flipped on if we arent wearing dress shoes or we're wearing a sweater or coat. This is abolutely rediculous.
Another rule that has just applied this week, 5 absences and we're in trouble? I would understand if this applied for a month or two, but for the whole year?! Are they out of their minds? Are we supposed to be programmed robots with boosted immune systems? We are humans, humans get sick, humans go through exhaustion, humans visit doctors etc. There are so many valid reasons as to why a student would be absent to a class and yet we cannot do anything about it.
